SEATTLE (AP) - The suspension of Seattle Mariners first baseman Richie Sexson for charging the mound in a game against Texas has been reduced to five games.

The Mariners said he would begin the suspension with Saturday night's game against the Chicago White Sox.

He will miss the final two games of the current series against the White Sox, and all three games Monday through Wednesday against the Rangers in Texas.

Sexson was ejected from Thursday's game against the Rangers after he charged the mound and threw his helmet at Kason Gabbard after the left-hander threw an eye-high pitch to him in the fourth inning of Seattle's 5-0 loss.

He was initially suspended for six games, but that was reduced to five after an appeal.

Bob Watson, Major League Baseball's vice president in charge of discipline, had cited Sexson for "violent and aggressive actions."

Seattle's Felix Hernandez and Texas' Gerald Laird and Sidney Ponson also were fined.
