Washington's Garcia out with serious foot injury

By Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) - Washington center Juan Garcia will be out indefinitely after suffering the same kind of foot injury that sidelined Huskies quarterback Isaiah Stanback two seasons ago.

Coach Tyrone Willingham made the announcement on Monday, and said Garcia would be further evaluated this week. Garcia injured his left foot during a recent scrimmage when he was caught up in a pile. There was some initial concern that Garcia might have injured his knee, but Willingham indicated there appeared to be no knee damage.

The Lisfranc joint that Garcia injured is on the top of the foot. Injuries to the joint are often mistaken for sprains, when in fact a small fracture or dislocation has occurred. Stanback's injury occurred in a game against Oregon State during the 2006 season and he required surgery.

Garcia was a second-team all-Pac-10 selection last year, starting every game at center for the second consecutive year. He was granted a sixth year of eligibility at Washington after missing the 2004 and 2005 seasons with injuries, and was one of three expected starters returning for the Huskies offensive line.
