Slain woman's mother ups reward again

Nicole Pietz

LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- The mother of a Lynnwood woman found murdered in 2006 is once again increasing the reward offered in the case.

The reward in the murder case of Nicole Pietz has increased to $36,000 from $26,000, her mother said on Wednesday.

Pietz, 33, disappeared in February of 2006 while on her way to join friends for dinner. A week later a man found her naked body in the bushes in Burien. She had been strangled to death and left out in the cold for several days, investigators said.

More than two years have passed, but Pietz's family is still grieving and desperately waiting for answers. Investigators have no suspects in the case.

"My daughter's body laid out there with the animals and the elements," said her mother, Gael Schneider. "What kind of a person...that's a monster."

There isn't a day or night that goes by that Schneider doesn't think about her daughter.

"Oh gosh, I don't think there is a day that's gone by when I haven't shed tears," she said. "I wake up every night thinking, 'what if? Why?' You know, 'how could anybody, how could anybody hurt her?'"

Police found Pietz's car days after they found her body, but they found no clues that led to her killer. Now Schneider hopes the bigger reward, which was first raised from $11,000 to $26,000 last July, will convince someone to talk.

"When it comes to Nicole, I mean, nothing's too much," said Schneider. "Maybe (with) this amount of money (the person) will say, 'OK, I could use that and come forth with that little piece of evidence that they need. I just hope I'm still alive by the time they get this done. None of us are getting younger."

Schneider is asking anyone who can help solve the case to come forward and allow a mother to begin healing.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact Raphael Crenshaw at the King County Sheriff's Office at 205-205-3425 or Crime Stoppers at 800-CRIME-13.
