Two injured in construction accident

BELLEVUE -- Two construction workers were injured Monday afternoon when they were struck by a piece of construction equipment.

Bellevue fire officials say a crew of five was doing maintenance at three radio towers in the 3000 block of 118th Avenue SE. They were reinstalling guy wires, which involve anchoring them some 110 feet into the ground.

The hydraulic equipment that they were using to dig the hole malfunctioned, swung around and struck two of the five workers, seriously injuring them.

The two were rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, but their exact condition is not known.

There's no word yet what caused the equipment to malfunction.

The victims' names have not been released.
