The "Schrammie": Take a bow, Mr. I-957 mastermind

The "Schrammie": Take a bow, Mr. I-957 mastermind

By Ken Schram

SEATTLE - I love the creative absurdity of it.

But I hate the gasoline it throws on the fire.

So for making a valid point in an utterly ridiculous way, would Gregory Gadow, the mastermind of Initiative 957, get off his soap box and come on down.

Gregory gets high marks for the "hoot" factor in an initiative that says married couples must biologically produce kids in order to stay married.

I get it.

He's directing a point at people who have trudged out all sorts of illogical arguments against gay marriage.

Yep, I get it alright.

Gregory's looking for some guffaws at all the assumptions being made; assumptions that keep those people from extending basic human dignity to gays and lesbians.

The problem is Gregory doesn't get it.

Mocking marriage does nothing but provoke P.O.'d people to dig deeper for reasons to discriminate.

Hey, I've long been a strong supporter of gay marriage.

And I'll admit Gregory got me to laughing.

But Greg doesn't need me slapping my knee.

He needs gay marriage opponents slapping their foreheads and thinking.

So, for sacrificing substance for silliness; for taking a shot without first taking aim, and for making a point with no thought of making headway, take a bow Gregory, 'cause this "Schrammie's" for you.

And be sure to join Ken, along with John Carlson, on "The Commentators", which airs every weekday from 9-Noon on AM 570 KVI.

It's a lively exchange of information, insight and perspective with two guys who don't agree on much, but still manage to enjoy each other as they tackle issues of the day. Even better, callers are invited in on the verbal action.
