It is so strange to be here and have the temperatures not be in the 100’s! There is rain in the forecast through the weekend but it looks like we should get the game in tonight. I am sure you have heard by now that we do not come back to Baltimore this season so if anything gets rained out we will be looking at a double header Sunday or Monday. Thanks schedulers!
We arrived here at 8:30 last night. The flight was much better than I thought it would be after looking at the weather map and the storms across the Midwest. Had a late dinner in Little Italy. Did not have room for desert however so I will have to sneak back for a cannoli and espresso before we leave.
Of course the first thing I had to do when I got to the park was head over to the O’s side to see Adam and George. Both are doing well. Adam wanted everyone to know that he was doing well and settling in. He wanted to hear how everyone else was doing. In talking to some of his teammates they said that the spotlight he had to face early on was tough. It was a bit of an awkward situation to have so much coverage having not really done anything yet. He since has tried to keep a lower profile with the media which must be tough for him because Adam always enjoyed talking to us. It’s for the best though; he deserves a chance to settle in, not just to his new team, but to the big leagues.
As for George, he seems thrilled to have the opportunity he has right now to close. He also is trying to settle in. He thinks he got a little stung by the fans for comments he made about having to leave Seattle. Those comments were heartfelt, but apparently the Orioles fans, (those who are still out there, man this stadium is empty!) took it personally. This is kind of a funny baseball town. There is plenty of O’s action on the sports talk radio, the sports TV network, the blogs and papers, yet no fans at the ballpark.
What was hard to watch with both players was a loss of innocence with this deal. George genuinely wanted to stay forever with the club that plucked him out of the Independent Leagues. With Adam it was even more dramatic. One day he was up and coming future of the ball club, this is my home, this organization is my family, to, “It’s a business.” I guess they all have to grow up some day.
Second inning and 61 pitches for Wash already. Yikes!
