Ken Schram: More bumbling from Sound Transit

Ken Schram: More bumbling from Sound Transit

By Ken Schram

Sound Transit is confused.

Oh what to do, what to do?

The agency is in the throes of trying to figure out when its next light rail expansion plan will get to the ballot and what might be on it.

Maybe a line all the way to Northgate.

Oh joy.

Here's a rough sketch of things:

Snohomish county gets nothing?

Pierce county gets nothing?

North and South King County get next to nothing.

But...everyone gets the potential privilege of paying higher taxes so that Sound Transit can make believe light rail is an answer to what ails us.

Here's a better idea:

Have Sound Transit establish itself as a charity and just solicit donations.

Hell, we still won't get anything meaningful in the way of traffic relief for the money we give, but at least we'll get to deduct the hard earned dollars we turn over from our federal income tax.

I know this sounds far-fetched.

But if 25 years ago you'd been told that billions of dollars would be spent for what Sound Transit has given us so far, I'll bet you'd have said that to was far fetched.

And one more reason to make Sound Transit a charity: Charities are held more accountable than public agencies.

And be sure to join Ken, along with John Carlson, on "The Commentators", which airs every weekday from 3-6 p.m. on AM 570 KVI.

It's a lively exchange of information, insight and perspective with two guys who don't agree on much, but still manage to enjoy each other as they tackle issues of the day. Even better, callers are invited in on the verbal action.
